to create her ornamental and sculptural pieces of
jewelry.

techniques such as forging, bead embroidery, and

Metalsmithing and Jewelry Program
Towson University
June 5 - July 31, 2008
On the Rise
Curated by Jan Baum
On the Rise represents a diverse cross-section
of undergraduate and alumni
work that expands on the traditions of both the
metalsmithing and art
jewelry disciplines. In the exhibition, age-old impulses
of body adornment
are reinterpreted. Some artists engage non-traditional,
new materials, and
technology to explore the boundaries of the art jewelry
object and express
their individual artistic pursuits. Other artists in the
exhibition use traditional,
prominent materials in new ways. The work in On
the Rise has been selected
because of the artists' forward thinking and high level
of investigation into
the diverse and rich frontiers evolving in the metals
and jewelry field.
