"Illuminated Connections"
Mickey Freed Statement:
In this series the photographer observes crowded rush hour buses in Shanghai as a means of exploring the human condition. Allowing us to view multiple perspectives all at once, the bus serves as a fishbowl. As such, the bus reflects the outside world; where we can sometimes spot the photographer and his surroundings, surroundings which are more familiar to the rider than the photographer. Some passengers watch the viewer, while the viewer gets a glimpse into the mind of the viewed. The foreigner and the familiar are united in a single moment.
