New Work
Inspired by stones and organic materials, Sasha Aber uses semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, seed beads, fine silver, 14 karat gold fill, and fibers to create her ornamental and sculptural pieces of jewelry. She uses fabrication techniques such as forging, bead embroidery, and wire wrapping to make designs that incorporate multiple textures and shapes found in nature.
Sasha Aber (Newark, DE) received a BA in apparel design from the University of Delaware and has been making jewelry for twenty years. She has exhibited throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Brandywine Arts Festival, Arden Fair, and at various Pennsylvania Guild shows. In 2006, she was a finalist in Bead & Button magazine’s Bead Dreams Competition and was featured in Step by Step Wire magazine.

On the Rise
Curated by Jan Baum
On the Rise represents a diverse cross-section of undergraduate and alumni work that expands on the traditions of both the metalsmithing and art jewelry disciplines. In the exhibition, age-old impulses of body adornment are reinterpreted. Some artists engage non-traditional, new materials, and technology to explore the boundaries of the art jewelry object and express their individual artistic pursuits. Other artists in the exhibition use traditional, prominent materials in new ways. The work in On the Rise has been selected because of the artists’ forward thinking and high level of investigation into the diverse and rich frontiers evolving in the metals and jewelry field. Jan Baum (Towson, MD) is Professor and Director of the Metalsmithing and Jewelry Program at Towson University. She holds an MFA from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and a BFA from Arcadia University.
